Biking
Whether youre an experienced mountain-biker or simply a weekend biking
enthusiast, we invite you to explore the Hacienda and the surrounding area on two wheels with one of our experienced
guides. Choose from among the Haciendas mountain bikes (we offer safety
helmets as well) and embark on an adventure to nearby pueblos La Becerrera
or Yerbabuena, take a guided tour of Rancho El Jabali, or tackle one of the challenging trails just a short drive from
the Hacienda.
Please contact the front office to reserve a mountain bike and to arrange
for a guide at least 24 hours in advance of your planned excursion.

Bird Watching
Dazzling Vermillion Flycatchers, the sweet-songed Jilguero, and the chickenlike Chachalaca are just three of the scores of different birds you'll see and hear at the Hacienda and Jabali ranch. Take an early-morning or late-afternoon stroll around the Haciendas grounds (see the Hacienda Loop walk in the Hacienda Hiking Adventures & Walksť guide that follows) or arrange to have one of our guides accompany you to the 5,000-acre Jabali ranch, where you're guaranteed to see herons, egrets, and hawks. Don't forget your binoculars (or borrow a pair from the front office).

Organic Coffee-Roasting and Cheese-Making Tour
Visit the nearby El Rancho Jabali and witness first-hand our coffee roasting operation and dairy.
All of the organic coffee we serve is grown at the Hacienda and the ranch and was at one time supplied to the German Imperial House and served to
guests at New Yorks famous Waldorf-Astoria hotel.
Our small-scale processing and roasting facility gives you a closeup
look at how we transform the ripe, red beans picked from our well-tended
organic coffee plants into the robust brew produced in our kitchen, fresh for you at any hour of the day.
Our very own dairy produces the extraordinary variety of organic cheeses
served every evening and incorporated into many of the chefs delicious recipes.
See how we transform fresh milk from the ranches cows and goats into irresistible cheeses and enjoy the results at a tasting
at the conclusion of your tour.
We recommend a start time of 10:00 a.m. and request that you book your tour 24 hours in advance.

Games
Croquet, Bocce Ball, Soccer, and Volleyball
As you’ll see, the Hacienda offers beautiful green lawns that are perfect for a range of outdoor games. So whether you enjoy the sedate pleasures of croquet or bocce ball or a demanding game of soccer
or volleyball, we have everything you need for an afternoon (or morning) of fun. Contact the front office for game equipment.

Gym/Fitness Room
With so much to do outside, our familysized, well-equipped fitness room is never crowded. Located below the pool terrace, the Haciendas gym comes complete with a stationary bike, treadmill, stair machine,
free weights, exercise balls, as well as yoga and stretching mats.

We offer more than a dozen walks and hikes to match your skills and desires.

Hacienda Activities

Organic Farm Visit & Picnic
Let us introduce you to the splendors of the Haciendas organic farm with a visit to our hillside greenhouses. Discover first hand the abundance our gardeners are able to coax from the fertile volcanic soil.
Hand-pick a selection of greens and vegetables and enjoy a relaxing moment in the shade overlooking the river valley while our chef prepares a fresh salad just for you!

Picnics
Long after your return home, you will close your eyes and picture yourself
lounging in the shade under a grove of ancient trees in the sweeping meadow above Epazote Lake or on a blanket spread beside the reeds at Calabozo Lake, having just feasted on an extraordinary
picnic. Combine with a horseback ride or a leisurely walk (see the “Hiking
Adventures & Walksť guide that follows) and you're guaranteed an afternoon in paradise that you'll remember forever.
Please book at least 24 hours in advance.

Ranch Driving Tour
Explore Rancho El Jabali on a one- to two-hour tour that will take you from one end of this 5,000-acre oasis to the other. Visit the bamboo forest, seasonal waterfall, horse stables, lakes, meadows, and so much more. Stop when you like to savor a vista, photograph a great blue
heron, or to imprint on your memory the plume of smoke rising from the mouth of Volcán de Fuego.

Swimming Pool
Our year-round heated swimming pool 35 meters /115 feet in length is perfect for a refreshing dip or any-time-of-day workout. The pool is never crowded and consistently pristine (we use a state-of the-
art chlorine-free filtration system).
And our pool attendants and waiters are always at your service.

Tennis
The Haciendas beautiful and perfectly maintained tennis court (floodlit at night) is located just to the left of the swimming pool. We're happy to provide both tennis rackets and tennis balls if you need them
and can arrange for a ball boy and tennis pro (with 24-hours notice).

Walking and Hiking
Folkktale says that God was gathering up the many good things
He meant to give humans, when He realized that that there was a hole in His heavenly shopping bag. Most of those gifts had fallen through and rained down on Mexico which is where God was happy to leave them.
These gifts fell in abundance on Hacienda de San Antonio and the area
around it. We have created this hiking adventure and walking program to bring you closer to these gifts to the extraordinary beauty and majesty of this part of Mexico.
First there is Volcan de Fuego, Colimas two-mile high active volcano. Wherever you walk, you will see it sometimes sending off a plume thousands of feet high, sometimes seemingly somnolent, wrapped, except for its sun-kissed top, in mist. Look for it wherever you roam.
Turn and it will likely be somewhere in sight.
The same geologic twist of fate that gave this area the volcano, gave it an abundance of moisture. Virtually wherever you walk, you will hear the calming sound of gushing, rushing water.
The Haciendas landscape has been shaped over millennia by these forces
the explosive power and resulting rich soil of Volcán and the patient, constant flow of the water. As you walk, you'll see evidence of this everywhere in small volcanic formations, enormous calderas and ravines, in trees huge and ancient beyond imagining and in a countryside immensely
green and full of every kind of life.
Sometimes you'll walk on trails overgrown and dark, only to round a bend
and see stretched out before you in all its immensity this astonishing piece of Mexico. Sometimes you'll turn a corner and spy a family of jabali (wild boar) grazing at the edge of the trail.
Our program includes more than a dozen walks and hikes of every sort (some of which are also perfect for joggers and trail runners). For example:
Just before cocktail hour, stroll through the serene evening light next
to one of the Haciendas three lakes.
You'll be serenaded by the songs of the many birds that make this part of
Mexico home, but don't be surprised when you see an eagle swoop down on
its unsuspecting prey.
Or leave early in the day on one of our challenging and exhilarating river
hikes – past a ruined hacienda, across a river on a fallen tree, through a plateau with views of the Sierra Madre in the distance and with cattle herons and vermillion flycatchers trailing you.
Finish with a thousand-foot climb up a steeply switch-backed trail to a view that you will dream about long after you've returned home.
And of course at the end of your hike the Hacienda awaits: with a powerful, soothing hot shower, as many fluffy towels as you desire, lunch at the pool, a massage in your room.
Let us show you nature at its most beautiful and intense and then fold you in luxury as you regale your fellow guests with stories about your adventures.
