LODGES, NETHER STRAVANNAN
Scotland, United Kingdom
Sleeps 16
Bute is a haven for walkers, cyclists, golfers, fishing and sailing parties. With features including 3 golf courses & the famous West Island Way¯ walk it is easy to see why. For those who prefer the indoors, there are plenty of activities and events to capture your imagination.

ANGLING
Loch Fad is tranquil until you feel the jerk of an 18lb trout, and you know a fight is on. Fish of such size are landed regularly from boat and bank between March and October. In addition, Quien Loch, Greenan Loch and Loch Ascog offer their fair share of excellent fishing.

CRUISING
Cruise the lochs and isles on a day or afternoon sailing aboard the famous Waverley - the last paddle steamer in the world. Facilities on board include bars, self serve restaurants, lunches and a souvenir shop. For details of sailing times and seasons contact the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre on 01700 50 2151.

CYCLING
Why not leave the car behind and spend a day exploring Bute by bike. There are miles of flat coastal road to the East of the Island or for the more experienced rider the Island showcases some breathtaking scenery.
For more information and the hire of bikes you can contact The Bike Shed 01700 505515 where prices for bike hire start from £15 per day.

EXPLORING THE PAST
Set in beautifully remote locations are the ruins of the chapels dedicated to Saint Ninian and Saint Blane, which tell of missionary faith. Stone circles, chambered cairns, cup markings and other mysteries from four millennia ago may grip your imagination as you explore the island.

GOLF
Wherever you play you'll be inspired by spectacular panoramas and refreshed by sea breezes. With three courses on the island you are spoiled for choice. The challenging nine-hole Kingarth course is right on your doorstep, and takes you along Stravannan Bay. A full 18-hole course can be found in the main town of Rothesay. Designed by James Braid and Ben Sayers, Rothesay Golf Course enjoys panoramic views over mountains, lochs and bays. At Port Bannatyne theres a 13 hole course with a par of 67, based on 13 plus five holes.

SAILING
The waters around Bute are just as fascinating to explore as the Island itself, and the Maids of Bute, the painted rocks on the northwest coast, are a well known landmark. If you are an experienced yachtsman, you can charter a yacht, or bring your own.

WALKING
Bute is only fifteen miles long and five miles across at its widest point, so most sites of interest are easily accessible. The highest point is Windy Hill, which is just 900 feet high. If you enjoy relaxing walks, you will be delighted. Most walks can be as long or as short as you want them to be. For the more adventurous walker there is Butes very own West Island Way where walkers can choose a variety of routes around the island to explore some of the more remote parts of the countryside. For maps and details of the best walking route on the Island to suit your needs contact the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre 01700 502151.
